You take me by the heart when you take me by the hand

There are many difficulties to being a parent. One that I find most strenuous, is the role of adult.

Not the everyday feeding, clothing and administering of time out. Nor the ‘look both ways before crossing the street’, ‘because butt is not a polite word’ or ‘no you can not have french fries today, and why do they make those signs so big?” -ness.

But the setting of an example. The everyday teaching moments where in I do or do not act like an adult. The ones they see. These are not always brilliant. And I’m not always at my best but they, are always watching.

There are so many things I enjoy about our days together at the burrow.

a story about boots

These remembrances are just a few. I’m a sucker for my kid’s art.

Translation: Once upon a time there were hiking boots. One fell in the water. The other boot was safe and sound.

No hippie chick

I tried my hand at making a skirt last week. It was harder than it looked, possibly because I’m still unable to follow a pattern and in this case didn’t try but instead when with the ‘how hard can it be’ shrug. And next time I’ll try a pattern.

lola skirt

The thing is I didn’t want to make a whole skirt I just wanted to upcycle this old pair of pants of my little guys into a skirt. It turned out okay.

And the chick. Well the chick(s) is freaking adorable if i do say myself. And I do.

Weekend Rundown

Running Log
Monday: 3.7 mile Walk
Tuesday: 3.7 mile Walk
2 mile walk
Wednesday 3.7 mile walk
Thursday: 3.7 mile walk
Friday: 3 mile walk
Sunday: 2mile hike

Today dawned early and well, not bright. But rainy and wet as so many days do. But the bouncing and the GOOD MORNINGS and the I’m HUNGRIES were up just as early. And so The Man and I got a brilliant idea, and packed those boys off for an early morning hike.

You know to get some steam off, to run around and up hill a bit. And also to wake the neighborhood. As our loud chattering boys delighted with all things made their way noisily up the road.
The good news is, that I feel fine. I feel strong and good and still afraid to run or fall but I can hike up hill and walk for almost four miles and I don’t have any pain and it is amazing.

Modern miracle of medicine, I tell you. We live in good times.

It feels like years since it’s been here

While the sun struggles to make it through the clouds today, Spring Break is on the horizon. A whole week with the boys. Re acquainting ourselves with each other and the rhythm of the Burrow.

Robot

Practicing for summer a whole summer, of not having to get on the bus in the middle of the day. A whole summer of not having to exchange one boy for the other as I put one on the bus and then head out to pick up the other.

Him: First you get married, and then you can have babies
Mama: (keepin’ it real, yo. Real easy, that is.) yep
Him: There are a lot of girls that do not want to marry me.
Mama: *chokes* huhnhmmmmm Well, usually people wait till they are older to get married, so you have lots of time. First you have to learn to drive a car, then maybe you can think about it.
Him: I will have to go to school to learn to drive a car, maybe Neighbor Girl can be my violin teacher AND my car teacher!
Mama:um, maybe.
Him: Lots of girls Love me, but they do not want to marry me…..

Yesh, you’ll have that.

I spent the weekend at the beach, with some of my favorite quilters. The first day everyone complained because it was just too beautiful to sew.

The beach

The next day the heavens opened up and dumped, so you know, sewing.

I spent National Quilting Day (yes it’s true) Quilting. It was great. I spent the weekend away from little fingers and little hugs, quilting when I wanted, walking away and returning to things as I left them and not in the toilet.

in stitches

There is something to be said for an adult outing. And this was really my first adult outing sans kids. They spent the weekend immersed in all things male. Hiking with Dad and hanging with Dad’s friends. “We walked berry far! and you were not with us!!!!” but enough about those small beings! Focus! Quilting, at the beach! Amazing.

And I haven’t even started on the quilts…

Things are going great. Sure I still can’t bend from the waist or pick up anything too heavy, but I can walk. Watch me. Walkety walk walk walk. My legs are starting to complain and I’m working on stretching them out, its like I’m really exercising now!

I may start running soon or something equally galling!

While there were several attempts to catch a Leprechaun, including various handmade traps.

Leprechaun trap

We were sadly unsuccessful and I maintain that the Leprechauns were simply unable to get into our home. I think the pile of Gold and box of Lucky Charms outside our front door points to the fact that the little people were about last night. The boys are undeterred and traps are set for tonight. I may have seen a Leprechaun in the woods though earlier, so maybe we’ll get lucky.
