..also entitled Things I learned while riding my bike this week
Which include, but are not limited too
-
the chariot runs better with air in the tires.
it is a long way to town.
it is a long way home again.
pack food, someone, (probably me) will get hungry on the long way to town and back
use sunblock
travel lightly
plan to be gone for most of the day
With pre school over running during the week has taken a bag seat, I have managed to run twice on the wii this week. But it’s not the same. I have however been riding my bike a lot more. And it’s not just my crunchy personality, we may not be able to afford to drive our car soon if this gas crisis keeps up. I heard maybe TEN DOLLARS by the fall!
Now since we don’t live in an urban area, the only thing we can really do is ride bikes as the bus system is almost non existent and any other public transportation actually is.
This week we successfully rode into town (then walked the lake with Lunch buddy, hurray for the chariot!) and back. I realized that 1) Boy, am I out of shape-bike wise 2)my children. Heavy and 3)I’m going to need a basket on my bike if I want to do any grocery shopping or what not because after packing diapers, snacks, my purse and the chariot jogger wheels in the chariot there was no room to pick anything up.
I also needed some spiffy new shorts which I whipped up. Because if I’m going to be a biking mama, spandex are out (and have been for several years) but I need a bit longer short for the trip. I put a handy dandy turtle pocket in reach on these as well.
The main change that biking seven miles to town is going to bring is the planning of our days. It took me an hour to ride into town and another hour home. So speed is not in our future. I can’t say that I mind the turtle’s pace though. Thoughtfully planning our day around going into town and which days we will drive (at least once a week, Hello! Must go to Target!) is a challenge but a peaceful one.
There is of course one major advantage to this form of transportation….It is very quiet.
Plenty of time for planning tomorrow.

Yes, agreed about the chariot working better with full tires! Why am I always too lazy to check before I go out with it? But–love our Chariot and the fact that you can bike and run with it! Best baby thing we have, for sure.
Sounds like a great way to get around. Me, well I would have to be dodging crazy Spokane drivers. Next time you are up to visit, bring some of that water your boys drink so I can give it to my girls. Jeez. I think your boys could fall asleep on a rollercoaster. Love the shorts. They look comfy and roomy. Enjoy the summer riding around town!
If you keep this up, you will be a beanpole by BlogHer. What a great weight loss plan!
