The Start 2009

The Turtledash is hard to sum up in just one post (luckily I have a whole blog! Go me). For one thing, I’m constantly amazed that people do it. It’s not a fundraiser run, we don’t make any money on it. The shirts are at cost, but shirts are fun so we have them. It’s a potluck and sometimes? its a little crazy. And yet people come, year after year.

(do you think my mom is paying them? be honest.)

Take for instance the volunteers. So many volunteers. So few pictures. No one takes pictures of the volunteers. They are the behind the sceners who make it happen, yet no mug shots.

(sceners is totally a word..shush)

Volunteers on the job!
volunteers! Phil and his dad…no not phil, what is that guy’s name?

The volunteers on the course (Mile ten pictured above. Is it bob?) make it in the pictures more often because, they’re on the course! And people have cameras! Also the Mile Ten team tends to get bored and take pictures of themselves as evidenced in years past. Jenny Mile Ten volunteer 2007) Silly.

Here we see Lady J and Natalia getting together the 35 bags together the night before the run. They seem happy right? I’m sure they are! Thanks guys. I came up with the idea to make drawstring bags for the Turtledash this year. To keep numbers, shirts and other things together. Thank goodness, Lady J and Natalia were there Saturday to help with that. Because I was a little bit crazy by then. By Sunday at 7am we had 37 runners, and Lady J was threatening not to let anymore in (I’m pretty sure she was kidding). Anyway the night before the run is always special, with catching up and hanging out and special chocolate from Spokane. Yum.

I made a couple of special bags, Talia’s is hanging on the chair there, I really like the way that tote turned out. The other arrow is pointing to the coffee urn that Robin offered for the Dash (Thanks Robin!!) I never did find one at the thrift store. Neighbor girl offered one up to. Thanks Neighbor girl! I won’t mention that yours was missing several parts or anything! :)

Since that money tree we planted has never really produced the Turtledash is traditionally a potluck. There are a few yearly staples like my MIL’s brownies, (gone…in seconds) Zucchini bread, and these cupcakes.

The cupcakes are back!!
Return of the cupcakes!

Back again this year..Hallelujah. I actually had one before one small dasher licked the top of them all. Saving us from ourselves really. Thanks baby.

The run? Oh right, we’ll get to that tomorrow. I promise.
