My husband comes from a long line of proud Military men, my father served in Vietnam but never talked about it.

My kindergartner missed the Vetern’s day assembly at school this week due to bronchitis (hurray! first the flu, then bronchitis!). Which was too bad, because recently he has been very obsessed with “the Flag of America”. “Why don’t we have a Flag of America?” “Why does the Post Office have a Flag of America?”
We answer a lot of those questions, about the military, what that means, about freedom and the right to chose. The right to vote for what we believe in, the right to speak openly about our President, and Congress without fear of retribution. The right to protest, the right to organize.
All of these rights that are ours, by default, given as gifts by those who have served our country to protect our freedom. To choose. To protest. To vote.
On this Veteran’s Day I would not only like to thank My husband for the five years of service he gave to his country, but his father and mine. I would like to thank my cousin by marriage, our son carries his name. I would like to thank The Man’s grandfathers and uncles. I would like to thank the men and women in service today.
And to those who hold the fort at home. Thank you.

Over a year ago I wrote about Tia, a military wife who continues to inspire me everyday. Not only is she the most amazing quilter ever! (Everything she does! explodes with creativity!)but she is also raising three blond kiddos in the upheaval of military life ( I say this because I’m not one who would want to move alot) and don’t forget the four kittens!
Tia makes “hero” quilts and bags for families of those who have been lost in military service. I have found in the last year that this is much, much harder then it sounds. The emotional expense of making a ‘memorial’ quilt or bag is really hard on me and I am in awe of Tia’s compassion.

Tia, you are my hero.

Wow…I don’t know what to say. You humble me.
xo,
Tia
thank you, the Man, for your service to our country.
and to you Jeff. Thank you!
The Flag of America… that’s cute!!! The women, and men, who stand back of the ranks defending the flag at home have one of the most difficult jobs. It is amazing to me what these military families endure, so that their family members can ensure our lifestyle. Thank you for sharing Tia’s gift so we can see how amazing these families are
I join in your thanks to the military men and women who guard the United States as a great country and guard our freedoms as U.S. citizens wherever we might be!
