I mailed my gifts to the East Coast Family today (keep your fingers crossed for me) the box was larger than my mailbox and I reluctantly moseyed on down to the Post Office, where the line, naturally, wrapped around the building twice (possible exaggeration) Though for those among us who have ever tried to stand in the Post office line with a package and a three year old you know the line may as well have been that long.
Add a five year old to that equation, one that asks each white haired passerby “ARE YOU AN OLD MAN? ARE YOU AND OLD WOMAN?” and the line seems to stretch an indeterminate length.
Yet, no one was using the automatic postage machine (not sure what they are really called) why? I marched right up to it dragging a three year old by the arm and verbally encouraging a five year old to move on up, punched the buttons all the while saying “don’t lean on the scale’ ‘no, we don’t need stamps’ ‘the snowflakes protect your secret code’ ‘because if everyone knew are secret code they could use our moneycard’ ‘because if everyone used our moneycard we wouldn’t have enough money for food’.
And then we were done. Relieved I deposited the box and turned to see that the line had grown while we had been standing there, but it had not moved.
Oh technology how I love you. Speaking of that, for those of you who have a few gifts left to buy we have today’s giveaway!
Cagey at Rancid Raves has graciously donated today’s gift certificate to snapgifts and while I love giftcards (they are so much easier to mail to the East Coast!) instead of telling you that I have simply stolen Surrender Dorothy’s review, because frankly, it is much better written than mine. (which is probably why she has a book deal!)
Here’s how it works. You go to SnapGifts, you search your city (they have Lawrence, Kansas City, Boston, LA, New York and San Francisco for local brands and there is also a national brand option), then plug in how much you want to spend and wa-la! A gift card is sent to your giftee without you having to leave your chair. So easy!
They sent me a code to try the site out, and it literally took two minutes to fill in the form and pick a local restaurant. Options include: restaurants, shopping, books, entertainment, home improvement, arts & crafts and beauty & health.
I decided to hold this review post until the gift card arrived. I had to hold it for exactly one day. I’m local, so it was probably extra-fast, but I was surprised at the speed.
And — free shipping in December! Check it out for your last-minute holiday needs. Because you totally know you forgot somebody.
I of course did forget someone, by they were three years old and didn’t appreciate a nice restaurant that didn’t serve Peanut butter and jelly. So I’m offering you the gift card instead.
Open until Sunday evening all you need to do is go to snapgifts.com tell us your favorite item and who you plan to give it to (it can be you! sometimes we need to get a gift for ourselves!) then leave that information in a comment on this post. Come Sunday evening I’ll announce the winners.
Good Luck!

this one’s easy – definitely the gift card for Dick’s sporting goods for my dad! (or as my aunt says, “Richard’s” sporting goods, because the other word is just too uncomfortable for a woman about to turn 60.) hope i win hope i win hope i win.
I remember those days…
My son once asked someone “Are you a man or a woman?” The baby-faced, rosy-cheeked checkout boy was not amused.
